new moon the movie may be postponed. one of the scripts was found in the dumpster on the set. woman who found it gave turned it in. she claimed that there was no leak and that she didn't read it. we'll see.

a twilight summary

Bella Swan is an accident prone girl who moves to live with her father in Forks, Washington. Her mother Renee is marrying a man named Phil Dwyer, who makes her mother very happy. Bella feels that it would make her mother more comfortable with Phil's traveling job if she were living with her father Charlie Swan, who is the sheriff of the small town. Having lived in Phoenix most of her life, Bella is not accustomed to the rainy and bleak weather of Forks. She attends the local high school and makes few friends. She sits with Jessica Stanley, Mike Newton and Angela Weber at lunch. Her first week at school, she is told about the odd and mysterious Cullen family who adopted five children, four of whom were dating each other. Those five teenagers sit together at lunch and Bella instantly notices their unusual beauty, the fact that they never touch their food, and the way that other students avoid them while not understanding why they do so. As Bella attends classes, she finds that the youngest looking Cullen, named Edward, is in her biology class. When she is assigned as his partner for the class, he reacts poorly to her, acting as if he found her repulsive.However, over time Edward warms up to her a bit, no longer glaring when she enters the room, or ignoring her throughout class. On a day when Edward is conspicuously absent from Biology, Bella is horrified to find that the class will be blood typing today. Upon seeing blood, she becomes woosy. Mike Newton (who has an obvious crush on Bella) immediately volunteers to take Bella to the nurse. On the way to said nurse's office, they run into Edward, who has arrived just as class is ending. Bella has fallen sickly to the ground, and Mike is patheticallly unable to move her. Upon being told what's wrong, Edward chuckles, and scoops her up to frustrated Mike's protests. He takes her to the nurse, mocking her for her intolerance for so little blood. Angrily, Bella defends herself by explaining that it's the smell of blood that gets her. Shocked, Edward says "People can't smell blood". "I can" she retorts.As Bella and Edward spend more time together at school, they become friends, even beginning to sit together at lunch on occasion. But he remains mysterious. She notices that his eyes change color, sometimes golden, sometimes eerily black. One day, while Bella is in the parking lot at school, she is nearly crushed by a van that is spinning out of control. Edward rushes towards her (reaching her in a split second from the other side of the lot), pushes her out of the way and stops the van with his bare hands (leaving a dent in the metal). In the ER, Bella is examined by Dr. Carlisle Cullen - Edward's father. She learns that he is a well-loved doctor in this local hospital. Edward is there as well, and she finds that he is not hurt at all. This (along with the fact that she saw him stop a full-size van) peaks her curiosity, but Edward is quick to avoid the topic, telling her she hit her head pretty hard on the concrete. Back at school, they resume their odd friendship, and she asks him at lunch what he is exactly. He smirks and asks her what her theories are. He dismisses her cliche superhero-like guesses with humor, but then seriously asks "What if I'm not the hero, what if I'm the monster?", making her all the more curious about him.Over a weekend, several of Bella's friends decide to have a bonfire on a beach at La Push, the Quiluete Native American reservation. Bella invites Edward to come, but he declines, telling her that he and his family are not welcome at the reservation. He will not say why. At the bonfire, Bella meets the son of an old friend of her father's - named Jacob Black. As the teens tell scary stories around the fire, Bella becomes intrigued at Jacob's knowledge of the Cullen family. Getting him alone, she coerces him into telling Quiluete legends until he gets to the one that Jacob's father (Bella's father's friend Billy Black) claims is about the Cullen family. According to the stories, they are "Cold Ones", or vampires. Jacob scoffs at the stories, saying his father is a crazy old man. But to Bella, the pieces begin to fit and she puts it all together.Bella goes out one weekend with Angela and Jessica to Port Angelos, a nearby city. She splits off from the other two, planning to meet them later for dinner. Looking for a specific store, Bella gets lost in the darkening town. Creepy men follow her, and begin cat-calling. Now realizing what the men intend to do, Bella starts to run, but the men have herded her towards yet more creepy men. At the last possible moment, a shiny Volvo - Edward Cullen's car - screeches to a halt and he throws the door open ordering her to get in. Gratefully she does so, and they speed away. Edward snaps at Bella, asking her why in the world she had been so foolish, and asking her to distract him by babbling on about some boring subject, so that he could calm down. After Bella fails ease his temper by much, Edward suggests he take her to dinner as a distraction. On their way into the resteraunt they run into Angela and Jessica, who head home without Bella.After dinner (as always, Edward did not eat), in Edward's car on the way back to Forks from Port Angelos, Bella confronts Edward with what she has learned from Jacob. He reluctantly admits to being a vampire, and confirms that so are the rest of the Cullens. She then asks how he knew she needed saving. He explains that he has been following her, feeling a need to protect her. He knew she was coming to Port Angelos because he can read minds... all minds except for Bella's mind. So, he had been listening to Angela's and Jessica's thoughts to keep tabs on her. When she left them, he lost her for a while, but managed to find her by scent just in time. Hearing the would-be-rapists' thoughts about Bella nearly sent him over the edge. He needed Bella to distract him so that he could stop himself from hunting them down and killing them all.Still driving home, Bella freaks out at how fast he is driving, and he tells her not to worry because he is a "built-in radar detector". Sufficiently soothed, Bella continues to ask questions. She asks if her assumption that when his eyes are golden he is full, and when his eyes are black he is thirsty is right. Surprised at her observance, he comfirms that's correct. Then Bella learns about Edward's family. His "parents" are Carlisle and Esme. His brothers are Emmett and Jasper, and his sisters are Rosalie and Alice. Emmett and Rosalie are in love, so are Jasper and Alice. Jasper can both feel and manipulate the emotions of those around him. Alice has premonitions, and can hazily see pieces of the future. Bella also learns that unlike the Cullen coven, vampires are usually nomads. The Cullens are one of only two covens (that they know of) that do not feed on humans. They jokingly call themselves "vegetarians". Edward also dispels the myths that they sleep in coffins and have no reflections. However, he says that they truly can't go out in sunlight (the Forks area is almost always rainy). However, that is not because the sun harms them. Edward refuses to tell Bella what happens when he goes out in sunlight, but promises to show her someday.Now that they are being completely truthful with each other, their relationship begins to turn to romance as the two find they have deep feelings for each other, rather obsessive. However, they never so much as touch hands, Edward makes sure of that. One day, Edward tells her that the sun will be coming out that weekend, and he wanted to show her a place he loves up in the mountains. Enthusiastically, she agrees to go with him, though she doesn't know where. However, as the appointed day nears, Edward tells her to reconsider going with him, warning her of the danger of being alone with him far from help - from witnesses. Undaunted, Bella tells Charlie and her friends that she is going shopping in Seattle that day. After Edward comes to pick her up this news infuriates him. He makes it clear that he does not trust himself to not harm her. However, Bella wants to prove her faith in him, and they continue. In Bella's slow-moving truck (as she insisted) they drive to the base of a trail, and they hike for three hours until they reach the edge of the most beautiful meadow Bella has ever seen.Bella runs out into the measow, and turns to watch him enter the sunlight. When he does, his skin sparkles as if millions of tiny diamonds were embedded in his skin. They lie down next to each other, and for the first time try touching faces, holding hands, etc. Edward always seems to be concentrating on self-control. At one point Bella leans too close, and he leaps up and runs to the edge of the clearing. Slowly coming back, he explains that it is hard for him to stave off his animal instincts, though he loves her, he is always tempted to kill her. The day that they first met, his expression was not disgust, but rather thirst. Her blood smelled better to him than any other. Then taunting her, proclaimng the fact that he is the perfect predator (his looks, his smell, his inate charm, everything draws humans into their doom), he demonstrates his vampire strength and speed by circling the meadow in the blink of an eye, and snapping a giant limb from a tree and throwing it. Seeing her fear, his face falls. Apologizing sadly for his rudeness he lies back down beside her, and tries to describe what it's like to be near her. Explaining how maddeningly intoxicating and irrisistably delicious she smells to him (and he has super senses), he says the iconic line: "You are exactly my brand of heroin", and lies his head on her chest, listening to her heart. The sun begins to set, and they reluctantly head for home. Edward suddenly enthusiastically throws her on his back and runs down the mountain at a blinding speed, reaching the road in minutes. This so dizzies Bella that back at the truck she falls over and has to sit for a while to avoid being sick. Edward laughs and apologizes, sitting beside her. When she has recovered herself, he leans in and kisses her for the first time. She responds wildly and kisses him back passionately. He hastily pushes her away, and then it is her turn to apologize. So, in a bittersweet mood, they fire up the old red truck and head back to town.Not wanting to part just yet, Bella asks Edward to stay. After Charlie goes to bed, he sneaks in her window. They lie on her bed holding each other. Embarrassed and sheepish, she asks if he finds her sexually attractive. He laughs and replies "I may not be human, but I am a man." However when she adds "I was hoping that someday....you and me...." he becomes sad, and stiffly replies that that would be impossible, as he can never afford to lose any type of control when he was with her, she was too fragile. Edward tells her that vampires cannot sleep, but that he will stay with her as she sleeps. In the morning, he takes her to meet his family. He is amazed when she tells him that despite the fact she is about to walk into a house full of vampires, she is scared they won't like her, not afraid for her life. The Cullen house is out in the woods, and dbeautiful. Edward explains that the reason that the Cullens are rich is because Alice is so good at predicting the stock market. The entire family is waiting for her inside, and hey all love her at once, and she is welcomed as practically a member of the family. Esme is especially delighted that Edward has found someboddy to love, she being very motherly. Only Rosalie doesn't like her (which is unexplained until the sequal "New Moon"). Jasper, though friendly, stays far from her because he still has trouble staying on the "vegitarian" diet. Edward plays a lullabye he wrote for her on the Cullen's grand piano.Edward gives Bella a short tour of the house, stopping by Carlisle's room (more of an office since he doesn't sleep). On the walls are many pictures from all different time periods. Edward asks Carlisle to tell his history, and Carlisle tells Edward to tell it, since he knows it as well as he. Pointing to a painting of old London, Edward tells of how Carlisle lived in the 1600s in England, the son of a very self-righteous religious leader that busied himself hunting down "evil". Carlisle was a disapointment because he was slow to accuse people without solid proof. One night while hunting down vampires that were actually real for once, he was cornered and attacked. However, the vampire being weak nearly to the point of being crippled, it couldn't finish the job before slinking away. Carlisle managed to hide from those who would have killed him upon finding he had been bitten. When the change was complete, he wandered the countryside, refusing his thirst out of the pure goodness of his heart. However, one day he realized he could feed on animals, and had been ever since. Next, Edward pointed to a painting of Renaissance Italy. There were four figures, all looking like Gods, one very much like Carlisle. He explains that Carlisle stayed with these patrons of the arts for a while: Marcus, Caius, and Aros. (These characters are intoduced in the next book in the series). However, he left them because he couldn't stand their blood-soaked and ruthless lifestyles. Eventually, Carlisle ended up in America, and discovered his talent for being a doctor. Becoming extremely lonely over the years, he had been contemplating creating a companion. During the Spanish Influenza epidemic in the 1910s, Carlisle came across a dying 17 yr. old boy, past any hope of recovery. His mother, also dying suddenly gripped Carlisle, and begged Carlisle to save her son - inexplicably insinuating that she knew what Carlisle could really do. When she died, Carlisle wheeled Edward to the morgue, and bit him. From then on, Edward had been his son and closest friend.Edward also told of the other Cullen's histories. Esme jumped off a cliff after having lost a baby. Carlisle fell in love with her, and changed her. Rosalie was bleeding to death in an alley when Edward and Carlisle came upon her (explained in the third book). Later, Rosalie was out in the mountains and found Emmet mauled by a bear. Loving him at once, she carried him all the way back to Carlisle, afraid that she wouldn't be able to change him. Carlisle did not change Jasper or Alice. The pair wandered into the area one day, Alice said she had seen a vision of them, and they wanted to live the Cullen lifestyle. Jasper was a Confederate soldier in the Civil War when he was made a vampire. Oddly, Alice has no recollection of when or where she came from, a total mystery to this day. Edward also ashamedly tells of a time when he went through a rebelious stage, and left Carlisle to hunt humans. He tried to feed on only "bad" people, like murderers, but one day he looked in the mirror, saw his dark, blood red eyes, and penitantly returned to his father.In Edward's room, Bella claims to Edward that she was not afraid of him. Seeing through this, he teases "You really shouldn't have said that", and pounces on her, landing on top of her on his couch. "What were you saying?" "That you are a very terrifying monster" she complies. Just then, Alice and Jasper burst in, and Alice announces that there will be a thunderstorm that evening, so the Cullens would be able to play baseball without the sound of their equally thunderous batting drawing attention. Bella tags along. They take Emmett's jeep up a road until it ends, then the vampires run. Left behind by the others, Edward tells Bella to get on his back, but remembering how sick she felt last time, she refuses. Leaning her agaisnt the jeep he kisses her softly until she agrees, then kisses her hard once, and like their first kiss he has to stave her off. Making it clear that he is far from completely mastering his self-control around her, he exclaims she'll be the death of him, then slings her up, and they run to join the others in another clearing.Bella and Esme (as referee) watch the others play baseball, and all is well until suddenly Alice halts the game, warning that other vampires are on their way...the bad kind. Three vampire nomads - Laurent, James, and Victoria - enter the clearing and are intrigued by the gathering. Zeroing in on Bella, they ask if the Cullens will share their "snack". When Edward moves protectively to sheild Bella, James, the Tracker, notices. Now it is too late, this is what James loves: a challenge.To save Bella, the Cullens split up. Jasper and Alice will take Bella to Phoenix (the idea being that James would not expect her to go where she said she was going), Esme changes clothes with Bella and along with Rosalie will try to draw James off, and Emmett, Edward, and Carlisle will hunt James down - though Carlisle abhors violence he sees no other way. Bella stops by home, Edward telling her she only has moments to grab some things, and make an excuse to Charlie why she must leave so that he won't worry and search for her. It breaks her heart, but she must break his heart. She shreiks at him that she hates it here, and is going back to her true home, even throwing in the last words her mother had said to him before he left him. Sobbing on Alice's shoulder, she falls asleep as Jasper drives the three of them to Pheonix.Jasper, Alice, and Bella are stuck in a hotel room together. Bella feels awful - guilty and frightened. Jasper begins to use his ability to calm her. Talking with Alice while Jasper is out, Bella learns that usually people die when bitten by a vampire because like a shark, they go into a feeding frenzy. In order for someone to become one of the undead, they must be bitten but not drained, and that takes more self-control than most have. The vampire venom works in them then, for three days of unimaginably excruciating pain, one of the many reasons Alice says Edward refuses to change Bella. Later, Alice has a vision of a dark room with mirrors, and she cries out "Bella!" before coming to. Jasper is concerned for her, and sits with her while she draws the room from her vision. Bella looks over her shoulder, and recognizes it as the ballet studio she went to as a child. This worries the two Cullens even more. The cell rings, and Bella answers in hopes that it's Edward. It's James. In the backround Bella hears her distressed mother. James says he will let Renee go if Bella meets him in the ballet studio. He gives her until noon to break away from her protectors, which seems impossible to Bella.The three head to the Phoenix airport, where Bella and Edward will meet up and fly somewhere safe. However, worried sick about her mom, Bella goes to a bathroom that she knows has two exits, and runs out the far side, just barely managing to get away from Jasper, and jumping into a nearby cab. Arriving at the ballet studio, James is waiting for her. She is releaved to find that he had been playing a home video from her house in the background of the phonecall to trick her into thinking that he had her mom. James sets up a camcorder so that Edward can watch him kill Bella later. He sniffs her, mocks her, trips her as she tries to flee, breaks her leg, and throws her into the mirrored wall. She lies bleeding to death amid shards of glass on the floor, and James goes in for the kill, biting her wrist.Just then the Cullens rush in, and drag James off of her. Three of them: Edward, Alice, and Carlisle kneel over Bella. Alice braces Bella's head as Carlisle works on her leg. Edward holds her hand and begs her to live. Bella's whimpers turn to screams as the place where James bit her wrist begins to burn. Carlisle (who was the one to change the others) realizes what is happening, and tells Edward he will have to suck out the venom or she will become a vampire. Terrified, he proclaims he can't, that he'll be unable to stop himself from draining her dry. But Carlisle urges that he must because the only other person that could is himself, and her leg must be tended to immediately. Steeling himself, Edward sucks on her wrist, which initially makes Bella hurt worse, and Alice has to brace her harder, but then after awhile she starts to feel sleepy and the pain numbs. All that is left to be seen is if Edward can stop himself before killing her...and he does, triumphantly proclaiming "Her blood tastes clean". By this time James is dead (having been ripped to shreds and set on fire - that's how you kill a vampire) and the ballet studido is burning down. Edward picks her up, and Bella loses conciousness as he carries her.Waking up days later in the hospital, Bella finds herself hooked up to various machines, sporting casts, an IV in her arm, a bandaged hand, and Edward at her bedside. He tells her that Alice had seen the videotape that James was making in a vison. To add to the insult, James had told that he knew where Alice came from. He even knew her last name. The reason she couldn't remember anythign was because she had been locked away in a dark cold hole of an insane assylum because of her visions. Her unfeeling family had faked her death and sent her there to rot. James found her and wanted to make her his, but an older vampire beat him to it, and he had wanted vengeance ever since. After Bella is through absorbing this story, Renee comes into the room, Carlisle having called her (Alice had too much fun fabricating an "accident" at a hotel), and Edward pretends to be asleep. To please her mom, she proclaims Edward to be just a crush, and her mom leaves. Edward then tells Bella that he really is just a crush, and she can't beleive he could think that! Bella demands Edward to promise to never ever leave her. He feels that all this is his fault, and will only agree to promise not to leave her so long as she needs him. He kisses her softly and the heart moniter goes wild.Dissapointing her mom, Bella says she wishes to continue living with her dad, and goes with the Cullens back to Forks, where she apologizes profusely to Charlie. Months later, the delighted Alice gets Bella all dolled up – who is not sure why. Edward comes and picks her up, in a tux, and she is horrified that he takes her to the prom. However, Edward is suave enough that despite the fact that her leg is still in a cast, she has a good time. At the prom, Jacob shows up and says that his dad payed him in car parts (he loves to fix up old cars) to come tell her to beware of Edward. Embarrased, he shrugs and leaves. Edward and Bella exit the dance to sit outside. He asks her what she thought they were going to do if not prom (still frustrated by the fact that he can't read her mind). She tells him she was hoping he would make her a vampire. He is angry and sad because he has already tried to convince her that's not what she wants. Perking up, he mischeiviously asks if now is a good time, and puts his mouth on her neck. Bella gets scared but excited...and he turns it into a kiss, saying "Did you really think I'd give in that easily?" Our story ends with Bella on Edwdard's lap, the two of them looking out at the Twilight, and with a sigh Edward comments on how there's always another ending.

Time moves on for Bella Swan, and she becomes even more deeply entwined with vampire boyfriend: Edward Cullen. Her desire to become a vampire grows as her 18th birthday nears, and Edward will not be aging with her. One night, she has a dream that she is looking as her grandmother and Edward comes up behind her grandmother, putting his arm around her. Suddenly Bella realizes that this is not her grandmother, but herself looking into a mirror! She wakes up depressed and anxious, gets ready for school, and Edward picks her up for school as always. Despite her commands for there to be no acknowledgment of this event, Edward tells Bella that Alice (Edward's vampire sister) has planned a party.They force Bella to come and enjoy herself, giving her presents, even. As she opens her present from Edward and Alice, Bella slices her finger on the wrapping, giving her a nasty paper cut. The Cullen family’s reaction shocks Bella. She thought they were very in control of themselves, but the smell of fresh blood is overwhelming. Jasper (the one who continues to have the hardest time living the “vegetarian” lifestyle) pounces at her. Edward is forced to tackle her away from him, and they fall with a crash onto the glass table and dishes, deeply slicing Bella’s arm from the inside of her elbow to her wrist. This makes Jasper all the more ravenous. Edward tries to push him away, Jasper snapping his teeth inches from Edward’s face. The extra-strong and uncharacteristically humorless Emmet yanks Jasper off of him, and drags him outside.Rosalie and Esme also go outside quickly, away from the growing pool of Bella’s blood. Carlisle, who is a doctor (and the only one with complete control over his instincts, due to age, and his innate goodness), takes Bella into another room to mend her wounds, Alice running to fetch his medical kit. Alice then also goes outside, but Edward refuses to leave Bella’s side. His clenched jaw and the fact that he is not breathing makes is obvious that this is extremely difficult for him. Bella tells him he is being stupid, and that he should leave too. Carlisle sighs, and finally convinces him to leave by telling him to go and tend to Jasper who is beating up on himself, deeply embarrassed though it’s not his fault. Carlisle mends her arm, and Bella, alone with him for once, seizes the opportunity to ask questions about Edward. She learns to her despair and surprise that the main reason that Edward will not change her, is that he believes that he and the others have lost their souls. She asks if Carlisle believes this, and he says he doesn’t know, but that he sees the good in the others, especially in Edward (his longest companion), and he doubts it. Her arm sewn up and bandaged and the blood mopped with a gallon of undiluted bleach, Edward takes her home is a deeply depressed mood that scares Bella.Edward begins to spend less time with Bella, and she is fearful for the future. He is always in a dark mood, rarely talking with her – very odd for him. One day, he asks her to go for a walk. They go to the edge of the woods, and he stops to face her. Even though Edward is desperately in love with Bella, he must admit that he and his family are a danger to Bella. He has decided to leave her. Bella’s heart breaks and she begs him not to go. She is even more agonized when he tells her that his family – her best friends - will be leaving too. He will not say where they are going, but that is will be far away. As she continues to beg, crying that she can’t live without him, he lies and tells her that he no longer needs her. She becomes physically ill, and when Edward asks her not to go out alone – saying that vampires are not the only monsters out there – Bella barely hears him, doubled over, blinded by the pain. In the blink of an eye, he is gone.Bella wanders the woods for hours looking for him, though logically she knows that he is long gone. When it begins to rain, she collapses on the forest floor in the fetal position and wills herself to die. Unsure of how many hours later, Bella hears snuffling in the bushes, and knows that she should try to escape from whatever it is, but can’t seem to care enough, her life now seeming meaningless to her. However, it is not an animal, but Sam Ulley (a Quileute Indian from the nearby reservation) finds Bella lying on the ground and picks her up, bringing her home. A crowd of rescue workers have been searching for her for a long time and cheer when they see Sam’s got her. Charlie is worried sick and lies Bella down on the living room couch, where a doctor pronounces she does not need to be hospitalized, but should rest and be kept warm. For weeks Bella does nothing but lie in bed, deep in mindless emotional agony. The light in her life has been blocked out – just like a New Moon.Several blank pages of the book let you know that she is in such a depressed state that life no longer matters: October November December JanuaryWhen text re-arrives on the page, her father Charlie is letting Bella know how worried he is about her emotional state. He urges her to visit friends or do something outside the house. Bella decides to go out with her old friend Jessica Stanley, but finds that her newfound attraction for trouble is worrisome for Jessica. She decides to visit her old friend, Jacob Black. He is from the Quileute Tribe and lives on the La Push reservation. When Bella visits him, she realizes that she no longer feels so dark. The more often she visits him; she begins to refer to him as "her own personal sun". Though Bella is in no shape to develop romantic feelings, Jacob's intentions soon become clear. Though Bella is aware, she feels that she can keep this at bay by making her own feelings clear to Jacob. She still enjoys hanging out with him and riding motorcycles. These types of dangerous activities are the only way she can still remember Edward's voice. She remembers the way he would yell at her to stop foolish activity that would result in her injury.During the time they spend together. Bella meets Jacob's tribe friends Quil and Embry. They tell her how they are scared of Sam Ulley because he is forming a gang out of other boys from La Push. This gang isn't the troublesome kind, but rather they enforce the rules. The tribe all looks up to them, but Jacob and his friends are scared that Sam is up to no good. Over time, Bella and Jacob spend every minute together. She comes to care for him deeply, though not romantically. She notices that Jacob seems to be getting taller and stronger by the day. One day they decide to go hiking, but Bella's ulterior motive is to find the meadow which Edward had previously taken her to. She doesn’t find it.Mike asks Bella out, and to please her dad she agrees. However, Jacob rudely shows up and insists on tagging along, also pursuing Bella although he knows she still loves Edward. They spend an awkward night at the movies together, Jacob goes home sick. Bella is afraid that Jacob has developed some sort of flu, like Mike had and she thinks of how she had noticed when hugging him that his skin was always incredibly hot, feverish. When she attempts to check on him she is met with confrontation. Jacob's father, Billy, deters Bella from making contact. Days pass and Bella still has not heard from Jacob. Though her father tries to tell her this is nothing, Bella knows better. She knows Sam is involved.Still hurt by Jacob's disappearance in her life, Bella decides to find the meadow herself. Her father warns her about recent giant unidentifiable animal attacks in the nearby woods, but Bella's need for the dangerous only makes this idea sound better. After a few hours wandering, she finds the meadow, but is met by surprise by Laurent, a vampire who traveled with James, the vampire who had once tried to kill her. He tells her that Victoria, James' mate, is hunting her for revenge. As Laurent comes in for the kill, a pack of unnaturally enormous wolves warms out of the trees. She is terrified, but a wolf looks at her, and she feels oddly as though she has seen it before. To her utter surprise, Laurent becomes afraid, and flees. She has never seen a seemingly all-powerful vampire fear anything. The wolves pursue him, and she hikes back to her truck and drives home.Soon, Bella is determined to find Jacob and goes to La push one again. At La Push, Bella finally finds Jacob but he treats her roughly and pushes her away. Worried that the friendship she relies on so heavily is failing, Bella argues with Jacob. Jacob becomes angry, and shakes all over in a temper. Unexpectedly, she is met with the voice of Edward in her head again, warning her to calm Jacob down and leave. As she leaves, she reminds Jacob of the promise he made her to never leave their friendship. That night, Jacob is at Bella's window attempting to apologize and explain his behavior. When he tries to tell Bella details, he seems to be physically stopped. He tells her that she must try his secret. He tries to remind her by saying he's already told her at the bonfire last year when they talked about Quileute legends. It was the same night she learned the secret of the Cullens. Bella, naturally, can't remember any story but that of the "Cold Ones", or vampires.Eventually, Bella remembers the story of the Quileute descending from wolves. She makes the connection that Jacob has become a wolf with hearing stories of large animal attacks nearby and her own encounter with the wolves. Horrified that her dearest friend would murder innocents, she confronts him on the beach. He is furious that she is disgusted with him, exclaiming “I’m sorry I can’t be the right kind of monster for you!” When she retorts that the Cullens never killed anyone, he is shocked and says that he and the wolves haven’t either. Confused, she asks who did then. He explains that there was a vampire in the area. He also says that it’s not Laurent – the werewolves killed him. She at first has trouble believing this until her thinks back on the giant wolves in her beloved meadow. He then describes the other vampire they have been trying to catch – she is feline-like with flame red hair – the exact description of Victoria. When Bella become pale, Jacob asks what’s wrong, and she explains that the vampire is here for her. Jacob announces that he must call a meeting. He says that werewolves are connected mentally – that’s why he couldn’t tell her he was a werewolf, the other wouldn’t let him. But it is easier to communicate telepathically when in wolf form, so he leaves her and runs out into the woods, returning a few minutes later. After meeting, the pack (which now also includes Quil and Embry) vows to protect her until Victoria is caught and disposed of.Over time, Bella learns a lot about werewolves. In some ways they are like vampires: super strength (she is unsure which is stronger), lightening fast reflexes, and super senses. But in other ways they are completely different: their skin is hot (so hot that rain evaporates off them immediately), they eat several times their weight every day (of human food). She also learns the most dangerous thing about them. They are all having terrible tempers (it comes with the territory) and are prone to fits of fury which force them to transform. When they change against their will like this, they are not in control of themselves, and attack whatever – or whoever – is near them. Bella is invited to Sam’s house where the pack hangs out and eats. Sam’s fiancée patiently cooks for them. One side of her face and shoulders is scarred – a painful daily reminder to Sam of a past incident, and he has since then always been the most careful. One day Bella is sitting with Jacob in a car he is fixing up, and he sees the crescent scar on her wrist. When she tells him that is from when James tried to kill her, and he once again trembles, teetering on the edge, before remastering himself. Though Jacob has great respect for him Sam, this is hard for Bella to accept, because she still blames Sam for Jacob's transformation, though she knows it is genetic. Jacob's dedication to the pack still concerns Bella.She asks Jacob to take her cliff jumping, as she is still attracted to the danger that brings Edward's voice. Jacob agrees to meet her. Bella waits, but Jacob doesn't show up. She decides she can't handle the new Jacob and decides to jump on her own. Bella lands in a bad spot, and is crashed against rocks, nearly drowning. Jacob rescues her and fills her in on his reasons for being late. Victoria had been there and he had to stop her.Alice Cullen, far away, who is able to see the future and promised to watch Bella for Edward, sees Bella jumping from the cliff. Fearing that this is suicide due to the lack of Edward, Alice races back to Forks, where Bella lives. Jacob is driving Bella home and smells the vampire. Cursing, he spins the truck around, but Bella, seeing the car demands him to stop. When Alice finds Charlie and Bella, she is relieved that her vision did not end the way she thought it would. She learns that werewolves cannot be seen in her visions, which is why she did not see Bella being rescued (this delights Jacob, who instinctively hates vampires). Bella enjoys being reunited with Alice, since the whole Cullen family had left with Edward. However, during her stay, a close friend of Charlie's dies. Rosalie Cullen, the other vampire sister of Edward, had gone behind Alice's back and told Edward about the vision. Edward called the Swan's house to confirm the story with Charlie when Jacob Black answers and only tells Edward that Charlie is at a funeral. Taking this as confirmation, Edward goes to Italy.Alice suddenly has a vision of Edward in Italy – and freaks out. Bella doesn’t understand why, so Alice explains. Apparently, in a city known as Volterra in Italy lives an ancient vampire cult known as The Volturi. In the world of vampires, they are what could be considered royalty. They oversee the enforcement of the one vampire rule – keep it secret. Also, to her surprise, the leaders of The Volturi are Marcus, Caius, and Aro – the vampires that Carlisle lived with for a while during the Renaissance. Alice is alarmed because she sees that Edward plans to commit suicide by asking the Volturi for death – and if they refuse, her will break the rule flamboyantly, invoking execution. Informed of this, Bella passionately insists they rescue Edward from this fate (to Jacob’s consternation). Alice knows Edward would be nearly impossible to stop, but would stop if he saw Bella alive. Bella thinks this is not because he still loves her, but because he thinks it’s his fault she jumped off the cliff. Alice takes Bella immediately to Italy where she steals a rather conspicuous yellow sports car (with darkly tinted windows), and they race to the medieval Volterra.Alice tells Bella she will find Edward in the main square with a clock tower. With his tendencies towards the dramatic, he has decided anger the Volturi by taking his shirt of and walk out into the sunlight at exactly noon. Bella runs until her lungs nearly burst, racing against time, only minutes left. Finally she spots Edward, seconds from exposing himself to the human world. Desperately she calls out his name, and he stops, just before he takes the step into the sun. He stares at her in disbelief and whispers “Carlisle was right”. He thinks he has gone to heaven. She quickly explains, and he is incredibly relieved.Just then, out of the shadows, cloaked figures command them to follow – by “request” of the Volturi. Crawling down into the tunnels beneath the city, they take him, Alice (who has now joined them) and Bella back to their residence high in a tower overlooking the medieval city. Edward puts his arm around her shoulder and reassuringly kisses the top of her head, surprising Bella who still believes he meant it when he said he didn’t love her. She tells herself this is because he feels guilty about the fact that she is in danger because of him.The present Volturi are Alec, Demitri, Felix, and Jane. Some of The Volturi hierarchy are dressed in cloaks sporting their red eyes with pride, and others are dressed in sharp suits, with blue contacts that turn their eyes violet. The three are led into a round tower room – with a drain in the floor. Regally, the three original and oldest (millennia old) Volturi enter, long hair, and elaborate robes – looking exactly like the painting in Carlisle’s room. Marcus has black hair, and looks utterly bored at all times. Caius has white hair and looks angry. Aro is blind with fogged eyes. Aro is the leader, and introduces himself cordially, showing sick humor, even giddy. He also introduces Jane, a right-hand man. He tells of their powers. Marcus can sense relationships, and understands it all, never surprised by anything - except Bella and Edward’s hopelessly mis-matched love. Caius can. Jane can torture others with her mind. Aro can see a person’s entire life in an instant by touching them.The Volturi learn intrigued, that Bella is immune to the powers of most vampires. Edward cannot read her thoughts, Aro cannot see her past. Aro asks Jane to try torturing Bella to see if it will work. Edward snarls and launches himself at her, immediately crumpling to the ground, writhing in agony. Alice restrains Bella when she tries to put herself between Jane and Edward, telling her he’ll be fine. Edward leaps to his feet with a look of horror at Bella, but then relaxes when Jane’s ability does indeed fail on her. After some thought, they figure out that the only reason Marcus’s, Alice’s, and Jasper’s powers work on her is because they do not deal with her mind. Aro suggests that she and the Cullens join the Volturi. Their powers would be useful to their coven, and they miss Carlisle. The Cullens and Bella emphatically refuse.The Volturi remind the Cullens that their law states no human may know of their existence, meaning that Bella must be killed or turned into a vampire herself. When Alice had first met Bella, she saw in a vision that Bella would become one of them. She tells this to the Volturi who let them all go, with the provision that Bella is changed soon and warn them that they will be checking in on them soon.On the way out of the round room, Alice and Edward try to rush her out, but are too late to spare her from seeing a large group of tourists filing in who were tricked into a “historical tour”. Bella realizes what the drain in the floor was for. Waiting in the fake business waiting room outside the inner chambers until they have permission to leave, Bella begins to sob from exhaustion and sadness at the fate of the people, she becomes hysterical. Alice suggests only half joking that he slap. Giving Alice a look, Edward pulls her into his lap and holds her tenderly, confusing Bella. At last Demitri enters, his grey suit still immaculate despite his recent meal, and excuses them while reminding them to remain inconspicuous.Outside in the city the residents are celebrating a festival for the day when “Saint” Marcus drove the vampires out (or so they think). The people are dressed up in cloaks and plastic fangs. “Ridiculous” mutters Edward. Alice steals another car, and they get to the airport, Bella trying to keep herself from believing that Edward cares for her, refusing to get her hopes up. She tries not to fall asleep so that she can savor the moments that she thinks will once again be the last time she ever sees him. When they arrive in the states, Emmet and a penitent Rosalie are waiting to pick them up. Edward is furious with Rosalie for her spiteful behavior earlier, causing this whole thing. Bella however, eager to make some sort of positive relationship with her accepts her earnest apology. Rosalie when forgiven thanks Bella for saving her brother. When he sees Bella’s compassion, Edward is placated. Bella finally succumbs to exhaustion, asleep in her love’s arms.They all return to Forks, Washington, and Edward carries Bella up the driveway to her house. Meeting the more than upset Charlie, who of course blames Edward for Bella’s shattered heart. Edward however insists that he at least carry Bella to her bed, and Charlie watches him like a hawk. Sure now that he will leave her again, Edward has to pry her hands from her shirt, and she falls into a deep depressed sleep that last many hours.When she wakes she is horrified that he is still there only because she thinks she is dead or hallucinating. He thinks from her expression that she is simply afraid of him, but she begs him not to leave again. He assures her she is not dreaming, and she asks why he is here. Surprised he says it’s because she loves her, and she feels her heart breaking again because she can hardly believe him. It is now that Edward begins to realize the extent of damage he has done to her – broken beyond repair as she describes herself. He vows to her that he will somehow rebuild her trust in him no matter how long it takes.Bella sees that his eyes are black, and tells him to leave if he is thirsty, which he scoffs at. Edward holds her tightly and goes in to kiss her as he never has before. She struggles and begs him not to. Frustrated, he breathes “Why not?” She replies it’s because it will make it harder to bear when he gets tired of her and leaves again. Ignoring this stupid logic, he passionately goes in for the kill – figuratively. She is left breathless and she returns to sleep.Charlie grounds Bella for leaving without his knowledge, but allows her to see Edward in the house during certain hours. However, Edward continues to sneak into her window at night. Slowly, her trust in Edward returns, and she eases into the idea that he truly deeply loves her. He says that when they were separated he felt just as she did, and tried to track Victoria. Unlike James he sucked at that. Frustrated more than ever over the fact that she was not a vampire and therefore unable to spend eternity with Edward, she goes to the Cullen house, and insists that they put it to a vote. When the vote is an (almost) unanimous yes (Rosalie votes no, though she has come to love Bella as her sister, she still doesn’t want her to live their lifestyle), Edward storms about the house, throwing a fit and breaking things. Carlisle and Alice however, refuse to do it, and so Edward is her only option – very unlikely.One day after school Jacob is waiting for Bella and Edward at her house. The motorcycles that she had secretly ridden with Jacob out at La Push are in the driveway. Bella knows she will be double-grounded now. Bella, feeling betrayed, demands Jacob give his reasons, and he says it’s his duty to try to keep her from “the leech” as he calls Edward, by any means (including grounding). Bella yells at him, and when he becomes angry, Edward step in front of her preparing to attack. Calming himself, Jacob says “I would never hurt her” with a cruel emphasis on “I”. Bella, seeing that her friendship with Jacob will be compromised, reminds her of his promise to her. He hangs his head and says he doesn’t see how that’s possible now that she has chosen vampires over wolves. Jacob runs off, and Edward attempts to comfort her. Bella is forced to go back to the house and face her father when Charlie shouts her full name out the window. Though still in a bit of disbelief, Bella sees hope for her future.

The story begins with the revelation that Seattle is being plagued by a string of unsolved murders, which Edward suspects to be the cause of a newborn vampire that is unable to control its thirst. Edward and Bella fill out college applications, while Bella explains to Edward her desire to see Jacob, her werewolf friend, again. Meanwhile, Alice Cullen has a vision that Victoria, a vampire that is hunting Bella, is back in town.Although Edward fears for her safety, Bella insists that Jacob and the rest of the werewolf pack would never harm her, but Edward is still not convinced. While Edward and his brothers leave town to hunt, Alice, Edward's sister, is left to "babysit" Bella. During school, Bella runs off with Jacob. When Bella arrives afterwards at the Cullens' house unharmed, Edward is convinced that the pack of werewolves were harmless to her and allows Bella to visit Jacob once in a while. During one of these visits, Jacob reveals to Bella that he is in love with her and forcefully kisses her, much to her displeasure. She reacts by punching him, succeeding only in breaking her hand. Edward angrily threatens Jacob when Bella is brought back home, saying that if he ever kisses Bella again without her permission, he will break his jaw. Later that night after Jacob leaves, Bella tries to get Edward to sleep with her before turning her into a vampire. Edward initially refuses, explaining to Bella that he could very easily kill her. Eventually, upon realizing how much it means to Bella, he says that he is willing to try in the future as long as they are married first. Despite having an aversion to marriage, Bella realizes that spending eternity with Edward is more important to her than anything else and accepts his proposal.Bella and the Cullens realize that the murders in Seattle are being committed by Victoria and an "army" of newborn vampires. The Cullen family joins forces with the werewolf pack in order to combat this threat. As everyone else prepares for battle, Edward and Bella camp up in the mountains, where they are later joined by Jacob and Seth Clearwater– a young member of the werewolf pack– to wait out the fight. In the morning, Jacob overhears Edward and Bella discussing their engagement and becomes very upset. He threatens to join the fight and get himself killed because Bella doesn't love him; when Bella begs him not to, Jacob insists that he won't do so if she asks him to kiss her. Furious, she does so, and while kissing him she realizes that she is in love with him as well. However, she explains that her love for Edward is much greater and that she cannot live without him.The Cullens, as well as the werewolf pack, suffer no casualties during the fight and successfully destroy Victoria and her army.

Of course, there was nothing I could do to make the numbers on the gauge pick up the pace. Breaking Dawn is the fourth novel in the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. It is the last novel of the Twilight saga to be told from Bella Swan's perspective. Divided into three "books", or sections, the first and third books are told from the perspective of Bella Swan, and the second is told from that of Jacob Black. Breaking Dawn was released on August 2, 2008 with a special midnight release party in many bookstores. in the first chapter, bella and edward are heading to tell charlie about the engagement and get his blessing.
